The main goal of the foreign language education is to help students develop

the ability to communicate with speakers of another language. To achieve this

goal, students need to use the language in a variety of real life, meaningful and

culturally accurate situations designed to promote relevant communication.

The grade 6 program follows the spiral/ sequential curriculum which leads to the

development of communicative proficiency in German. The Level 1 program is

designed for students with little or no prior experience in the target language. The

program lays a foundation for further language study in upcoming grades

Reading and writing are incorporated as an extension of oral communication.

Students communicate through basic words and short memorized phrases within

a context and may begin to combine words and phrases to exchange information

about everyday topics.
