The IB Psychology course is a two-year program designed to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of human behavior and of mental processes, as well as the various approaches to psychology. The research methodology used by psychologists is examined in detail as are the subfields of psychology.

In Year 2/Grade 12 - IB Psychology, students will analyze the interaction of biological, cognitive, and sociocultural influences on human behavior, as well as use their understanding of the three major levels of analysis to explain behavior and thinking in the context of abnormal psychology and the study of human relationships. The ethical concerns raised by the methodology and application of psychological research continue to be key considerations. Students undertaking the second year course of study can expect to use their knowledge and understanding of the strengths and limitations of psychological research to evaluate empirical research studies that tests the usefulness of theory—through written essays associated with comprehension, synthesis, and analysis as well as through the replication and analysis of a simple experimental study for Internal Assessment.
