Jan. 20 - 26: Welcome Mr. Ficher, our student teacher for the next 6 weeks. Mr. Ficher will begin teaching this week, after this week he will teach only on A days as he has other teaching responsibilities in Mr. Soldo's high school classes.
This week is an introduction to various government types in Imperial China. Students will be required to create their own criteria for their most effective type of government and explain why. Textbook pages covered will begin on pg. 179 as well as some ISN activities.

Jan. 27 - 31: Mr. Fischer will continue his unit dealing w/various dynasties in Imperial China and their systems of governing. If time allows, he will move into the chapter dealing with Chinese discoveries and inventions.

Feb. 3 - 7: Mr. Fischer will continue to lead teach covering Imperial China and the important dynasties of the time. This week the topic of Chinese inventions and discoveries will be covered including: exploration and travel, industry, military technology, everyday objects and disease prevention.

Feb. 10 - 14: This week students will continue Imperial China with Mr. Fischer. They are finishing chapter 18 specifically dealing with technology in weaponry. Completion of study guides for chapter 16 and 17. Students will also begin a review timeline dealing with the 4 major dynasties of Imperial China, inventions, travel, everyday objects and disease.

Feb. 17 - 23: This week we will finish Imperial China. Students will participate in a trading activity, finish chapter 19 and have the Imperial China Test Thursday, Feb. 20.

When we return from February break, we will begin a short unit on Japan and then move into our unit on the Americas.

March 3 - 7: **WE ARE BEGINNING OUR MINI-UNIT ON IMPERIAL JAPAN**
This week Imperial Japan will be introduced. We will begin with the geography of Japan and complete a small map of Japan, due Thursday. We will also delve into our chapter on Japanese Samurai warriors.

March 10 - 14: We will continue our unit on Imperial Japan. We will create a poster dealing with Japanese Samurai's. We will discuss and debate "The Code of Bushido" and Samurai values as well as understand the four main groups of Japanese society. We will also cover military training and fighting, mental training, training in literature and tea ceremony in dealing with Samurai warriors. There will be no unit test for our mini-unit on Imperial Japan.

March 17 - 21: **WE ARE BEGINNING OUR MESOAMERICA UNIT**
This week we will learn about the geography of MesoAmerica and begin a map. We will also learn about the Aztecs' capital Tenochtitlan, specifically daily life, marriage, family life, social structure, food, markets, religious practices and recreation. We will work on a MesoAmerica timeline dealing with Aztec, Inca and Mayan cultures. If time, we will begin an achievement chart on Aztec, Inca and Mayan culture as well which will be a study guide for the end of unit test.

March 24 - 28: This week we will finish our MesoAmerica unit. We will complete a chart dealing with MesoAmerican achievements and continue our timeline on important MesoAmerican events. Friday we will have a unit test over the chart - achievements of MesoAmerican peoples.

This week we will read and discuss Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance. We will begin a poster dealing with Florentine government, commerce and trade, as well as advances in architecture and engineering, painting, sculpture, literature and science and math. We will also begin discussing leading figures of the Renaissance as well as completing a chart that deals with this.

April 7 - 11: We are continuing our unit on Renaissance / Reformation. This week we will be discussing Florence and completing a Florentine poster on the various aspects / contributions / politics / trade of Florence. We will also be starting a Leading Figures of the Renaissance Chart. The poster is due on Tuesday. We will start a time line on Renaissance and Reformation which will be due after spring break. Students will also be given a Renaissance / Reformation study guide. Our unit test is after spring break on Tuesday, April 22nd.

April 21 - 25: We are finishing up our unit on the Renaissance and Reformation. This week we will discuss the Reformation, in particular. The Renaissance and Reformation time line is due Monday the 21st. Students were given a study guide the week before spring break. Renaissance & Reformation Unit test is Tuesday, April 22nd.

We will begin Europe Enters the Modern Age by reading about and discussing the Age of Exploration and begin a drop down poster.

April 28 - May 2: This week we will continue Europe Enters the Modern Age, specifically discussing the Age of Discovery. We will begin reading about and discussing the Scientific Revolution. We will start a baseball card project that deals with this topic.

May 5 - 9: We are continuing our unit on Europe Enters the Modern Age. We are finished with Age of Discovery and are continuing on with Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment. Baseball cards project on 3 philosophers / scientists is due Tuesday. We will begin an Enlightenment Project where pairs must choose a philosopher from the Enlightenment and become and expert on that person. Students will also be given a Europe Enters the Modern Age study guide with a test next Tuesday, May 13th. The Enlightenment project is due on Monday, May 12th.

May 19 - 23: This week we will begin our end of the year project. This project is a Medieval World CD Cover. Students must choose one unit we have studied this year. Then students will create a CD cover of 12 highlights from their chosen unit. These may be major events, places, people, etc. They will create a name for their musical group as well as album that has to do with their unit of study. Then students will create 12 song titles that are related to each of the 12 highlights from the unit. On the back of the CD cover students will list and describe what highlight each song is referring to, which is a small summary of the highlight.

May 26 - 30: Students will continue on the end of the year CD cover on their chosen unit of study. They will summarize 12 highlights of their unit. This project is due on June 4th.
