                                    Jan. 20 - 26: We are continuing Latin America. We will be reading / discussing text pages 144-165. We will be creating a cause and effect flip book dealing with population migration / overpopulation problems in urban areas of Latin America.

                                    Cause and Effect flip book is due on Monday, Jan. 27th.

                                      Jan. 27 - 31: This week we will finish the Cause and Effect flip book dealing with spacial inequality & urbanization in Mexico City. We will then begin our chapter on Extreme Weather in Latin America, specifically hurricanes in the Caribbean. This will include the weather machine, how tropical storms are formed, tracking and preparing for a hurricane and cleaning up after a natural disaster.

                                        Feb. 3 - 7: This week we will finish our chapter on extreme weather, specifically tropical hurricanes in the Caribbean. We will also begin our chapter on the Amazon and Land Use Conflict therein. Students will participate in a silent debate acting as one of the six important groups of people living and using the Amazon.

                                          Feb. 10 - 14: This week we will be discussing the Latin America chapter on conflicts of land use in the Amazon Rainforest. We will be participating in a silent debate dealing with 6 different groupings of people using the Amazon Rainforest. Students will also be given a study guide for the unit test over Latin America. The test is Feb. 19th.

                                            Feb. 17 - 23: This week we will be finishing our unit on Latin America. Wed., Feb. 19 Latin America Unit Test.

                                            When we return from February break we will begin our unit on Europe/Russia, this unit will take the month of March.

                                                March 3 - 7: **WE ARE BEGINNING OUR EUROPE/RUSSIA UNIT**

                                                This week is an introduction to Europe/Russia. We will complete a literary assignment dealing with gathering information from two documents and writing essay questions in response. We will learn about climate, economics, population, geography and history of Europe/Russia.

                                                  March 10 - 14: We are continuing our unit on Europe/Russia. Monday we will give our intro group presentations as we do for each unit. We will also complete a physical and political map of Europe and Russia. This week we will also begin a social media project that will act as a summative unit test for this unit.

                                                  • 17 March - 23 March

                                                    March 17 - 21: We are continuing Europe/Russia and will start working on a social media project which will count as the unit final. This is due March 26th (Wed.) This week we will begin our chapter on Russia's varied landscape: physical processes at work.

                                                    • 24 March - 30 March

                                                      March 24 - 28: This week we will finish our unit on Europe/Russia. The unit test is a project dealing with social media / tourism. This is due and will be presented on Wednesday. We will now begin our unit on Africa.

                                                        Introduction to Africa notes are due on Monday, we will also begin our map of Africa while finishing our social media project/unit test due on Wednesday. Europe/Russia social media project/unit test is due. We will then continue reading and discussing Africa (physical landforms/properties). Africa map is due Monday, April 7th.

                                                          April 7 - 11: We are continuing Africa beginning with our map due on Monday. We will continue reading and discussing the Nile River Valley and its importance to Africa. This week we will begin an Africa Research Project which will also count as the Africa unit test. We will continue this after Spring Break.

                                                              April 21 - 25: We are continuing our unit on Africa. This week we will read and discuss Life in the Sahara and the Sahel: Adapting to a Desert Region. Students will also be continuing their end of the unit Africa Research Project due May 5th.

                                                                April 28 - May 2: This week we will continue our unit on Africa and finish up our Africa country projects which are due on May 5th.

                                                                  This week we will start our mini-unit on Asia, specifically focused on Mt. Everest.

                                                                    SEMESTER 2 EXAM WILL COVER ASIA AND AUSTRALIA UNITS

                                                                    This week we finish our mini unit on Asia and begin our final unit of the year on Australia. We will also begin an end of year project, World Geography Newspaper. In pairs students will choose one unit we have studied this year. They will then create a newspaper dealing with that unit. Students may write a variety of articles dealing with cultural events, people, sports, inventions and top stories of the time. Students will include topic areas such as politics, home life, law, religion, wars of the time etc. Each group must cite at least 4 sources, one of which may be our textbook. Each group will also hand in a responsibility sheet detailing which articles each individual will write. Individuals may not receive the same grade on this project.

                                                                      May 19 - 23: This week we are continuing our unit on Australia and continuing the world history end of year project - newspaper. Students will also be given the semester exam study guide. The semester exam is June 5th.

                                                                        May 26 - 30: ***WE ARE FINISHED WITH OUR LAST UNIT OF THE YEAR - AUSTRALIA***

                                                                        This week we will finish our last unit of the year - Australia. Students will continue working on the end of the year project, newspaper on their chosen unit of study. Students will also continue studying their study guide for the semester 2 exam-June 5th. Newspapers are due on June 4th.
